Team Bios
Mukite Musangi

Mukite Musangi is the Founding Partner of Mukite Musangi and Company Advocates, a firm he established in 1998. He obtained his LLB (Upper Second Class Honours) from the University of Hull (UK) in 1993 and was admitted to the Bar in 1995.

With extensive experience in corporate and commercial law, he has served on several boards across diverse sectors. He currently serves as Chairman of the Public Procurement Regulatory Board and Chairman of the Board of Directors of GenAfrica Asset Managers Limited.

Shaka Kariuki

Shaka Kariuki has held numerous leadership roles over a decade at the $6 billion Deseret Mutual Benefit Administrators (DMBA), including Portfolio Manager of Private Equity, Head of a $1 billion Fixed Income Portfolio, and Head of Emerging Markets across multiple asset classes.

He previously worked with Agilent Technologies, leading finance teams across Asia, Europe, Japan, and the USA. He also has corporate finance experience at First Security Van Kasper and mergers & acquisitions experience at Choice Hotels International.

Currently, Shaka serves as Chairman of Transcentury Limited, Vice Chairman of GenAfrica Asset Managers, Vice Chairman of Sterling Capital Limited, and Executive Chairman of NAS Foods in Ethiopia. He sits on multiple boards across Africa and the USA.

Shaka holds a B.S. in Economics, an MBA in Finance from Brigham Young University, and a Master’s in Government from Harvard University. He is a member of the CFA Institute.

Mumo Muthengi

Mumo Muthengi has experience in private equity and investment strategy, having worked with Trans-Century Limited (Nairobi), Development Partners International (London), and Charterhouse Group (New York).

He also worked as an Analyst in the Financial Institutions Group at Deutsche Bank Securities in New York.

Mumo holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin.

Catherine Igathe

Catherine Igathe is the former Managing Director of AIG Kenya Insurance Company and currently serves as a Director on the Board of GenAfrica Asset Managers Limited.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from USIU–Africa and is an alumna of the Advanced Management Program at Strathmore Business School and IESE Business School.

She brings over 18 years of senior management expertise.

Walé Adeosun

Walé served as Treasurer and Chief Investment Officer at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), managing $1 billion in assets. He previously managed U.S. equities and hedge fund portfolios at the MacArthur Foundation.

He was appointed to President Obama’s Advisory Council on Doing Business in Africa (PAC-DBIA) and currently chairs the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation.

Walé holds a BA in Economics & Business Administration from Coe College and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a CFA charterholder and a Wall Street Hall of Fame inductee.

Charles Ogalo

Charles Ogalo holds a B.Sc. Economics degree from SUNY and an M.Sc. Economics from Rutgers University. He is renowned for his leadership in fund management, banking, and change management.

He co-founded GenAfrica Asset Managers Ltd, now the largest fund manager in the region with over Ksh 432 billion in assets under management.

Charles has served on several major boards including Ecobank Kenya, Kenya Re, CDSC, and Sony Sugar. He is Chairman of GA Life and a Council Member at National Defense University–Kenya.

FA, Patrick Kariuki

Patrick Kariuki is the Managing Director of GenAfrica Asset Managers Limited, overseeing corporate strategy, operations, product development, portfolio management, and client relationships.

He joined GenAfrica in 1996 and has previously served as Chief Operating Officer. Patrick is a CPA, ACIB certified, and holds a Master's degree from Edinburgh Business School.

Patrick is the current Chairman of the Fund Managers Association (FMA).

Patrick Odoyo, ACIB, CPA – Chief Executive Officer

Patrick Odoyo is the Chief Executive Officer at GenAfrica Asset Managers Limited. He is responsible for administration, compliance, and investment, ensuring that funds are managed in accordance with client mandates, regulatory requirements from the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA), and the firm’s internal compliance standards.

He previously served as the Chief Operating Officer at GenAfrica. Patrick is a fully qualified Accountant (CPA) and Banker (ACIB), and holds a Master’s degree from the Edinburgh Business School. He currently serves as Chairman of the Fund Managers Association (FMA).

FA, Steve Biko – Chief Investment Officer

Steve Biko is the Chief Investment Officer at GenAfrica Asset Managers with over 15 years of experience in investment management. He joined GenAfrica in 2012 as an Investment Manager responsible for portfolio management and equities research covering the telecommunications and banking sectors, later rising to Senior Investment Manager before his current role.

Before joining GenAfrica, he worked at Old Mutual Asset Managers as an Investment Analyst focusing on equities and offshore market research. Earlier, he served as a Portfolio Manager and Research Analyst at Aeris International S.A in Santiago, Chile, managing portfolios across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Botswana and conducting research on the global copper industry and Pan-African stock markets.

Biko began his investment management career at Stanbic Investment Management Services in 2007. He is registered as a Certified Investment and Financial Analyst by ICIFA.

Cecilia Muyanga, CPA, CIA – Chief Operating Officer

Cecilia Muyanga joined GenAfrica Asset Managers Limited in November 2020 as the Chief Operating Officer. She oversees Finance, Operations, and Administration, and also serves as the firm’s Chief Compliance Officer. She has over 15 years of experience in internal and external audit, risk management, compliance, financial control, and project management.

Before joining GenAfrica, she served as Business Performance Implementation Manager (Africa and APAC) at Diageo, where she led process governance and financial excellence initiatives. She also worked as Finance and Operations Lead at Diageo Business Services.

Earlier roles include governance, ethics, compliance, and risk oversight at Diageo’s Africa Shared Service Centre, and Group Audit Manager – Africa at G4S Plc. Cecilia began her career at PwC Kenya, rising to Audit and Assurance Manager.

She holds an MBA (Finance) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Nairobi. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPAK), a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and a member of ICPAK and the Institute of Internal Auditors – Kenya Chapter.

FA, Patrick Kariuki – Managing Director

Patrick Kariuki is the Managing Director at GenAfrica Asset Managers Limited, responsible for product design, marketing, client relationships, portfolio management, strategy execution in coordination with the board, and overall corporate affairs.

He joined GenAfrica in 1996 as Head of Finance, Operations, Administration, and New Product units. Patrick has over 20 years of experience in Finance, Accounting, Administration, Compliance, and Investment.

He ensures that funds are managed according to client mandates, Kenyan Retirement Benefits Authority rules, and GenAfrica’s compliance requirements. Previously, he served as Chief Operating Officer. Patrick is a CPA, ACIB qualified, and holds a Master’s degree from Edinburgh Business School. He currently serves as Chairman of the Fund Managers Association (FMA).

George Mulindwa, CFA – Country Head, GenAfrica Uganda

George Mulindwa is the Country Head of GenAfrica Uganda, leading the firm’s operations and investment strategy in the country. He plays a key role in client engagement and portfolio oversight, ensuring investment excellence and compliance.

FA, Bachu Mtsumi, CFA – Senior Investment Manager

Bachu Mtsumi is a Senior Investment Manager at GenAfrica, contributing to portfolio management and research. He joined GenAfrica in 2016 and brings deep expertise in financial analysis and investment strategy.

He holds a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics with Actuarial Studies from the University of Southampton and the CFA Charter from the CFA Institute. Previously, he was a Portfolio Manager at Old Mutual Investment Group Ltd, managing institutional and individual client portfolios.

FA, Mohammed Khalid Abdi, CFA – Senior Investment Manager

Mohammed Khalid Abdi is a Senior Investment Manager at GenAfrica, responsible for portfolio management, investment analysis, and monitoring capital markets. He joined in 2017 and brings over 15 years of professional experience in asset management, corporate finance, Islamic banking, and investment research.

Prior to GenAfrica, he worked at Stanlib Asset Managers and Gulf African Bank and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from Egerton University. He is a CFA Charterholder and member of CFA East Africa.

FA, Emma Mugo, CFA – Investment Manager

Emma Mugo is an Investment Manager at GenAfrica, responsible for portfolio management, client relations, and investment research. She joined in 2021 and has prior experience as a Portfolio Manager at Britam Asset Managers.

Emma holds the CFA Charter and brings a wealth of industry experience and client-focused expertise to her role.

Escar Namirembe Muhanuka, CFA – Investment Manager

Escar Muhanuka is an Investment Manager at GenAfrica, specializing in macroeconomic analysis, equity and fixed income research, and portfolio management. She joined in 2015 and executes investment strategies for clients in Uganda.

She holds a BSc in Statistics and Economics from Makerere University, an MBA from Heriot Watt University, and is a CFA Charterholder.

Charles Aaron Omol, CFA – Investment Manager

Charles Omol is an Investment Manager at GenAfrica, leading portfolio management, investment research, new product development, and business expansion.

He holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Management from Uganda Martyrs University, a Master’s in Finance and Investment from the University of Nottingham, and is a CFA Charterholder. Previously, he was Senior Investment Officer at the Deposit Protection Fund of Uganda.

Duke Ochako – Investment Manager

Duke Ochako is an Investment Manager at GenAfrica, focusing on portfolio management and research. He joined in 2011 as Operations and Business Analyst and plays a key role in operations and investment strategy.

Duke holds a BSc in Actuarial Science from Jomo Kenyatta University and is pursuing the CFA Charter. He previously worked as an Investment Advisor at Dry Associates.

FA, Dorothy Gacheri Kaaria – Investment Manager

Dorothy Kaaria is an Investment Manager at GenAfrica, joining in 2013. She previously worked as an Administrator Consultant at Kingsland Court Benefits Services and as Workforce Real-Time Coordinator at Safaricom Limited.

Dorothy holds a First-Class BA in Economics from Kenyatta University and is a CFA Level III candidate. She brings experience, analytical expertise, and dedication to the investment team.

Elizabeth Wangechi Ndungu – Head, Research

Elizabeth Wangechi Ndungu is the Head of Research at GenAfrica, leading the Research function since 2020. She holds a Master of Science in Finance from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from Kenyatta University.

Elizabeth is currently progressing through the CFA program as a Level One Candidate, demonstrating her commitment to professional excellence. Prior to GenAfrica, she gained seven years of experience in the stock brokerage industry, building a solid foundation in financial markets.

Bob Mugema Ssali, CFA

Bob Mugema Ssali is a valued member of the GenAfrica team, contributing to investment management and research. With his CFA designation, Bob brings professional insight and analytical expertise to support the firm's portfolio management objectives.

Khatib Katana – Investment Analyst

Khatib Katana is an Investment Analyst at GenAfrica, assisting with research and portfolio management activities. Khatib brings analytical skills and market insight, contributing to the firm’s investment decision-making process.

Operations, Business Development & Advisory

FA, Timothy Mulondo – Head, Property Investment & Advisory

Timothy Mulondo is the Head of Property Investment & Advisory at GenAfrica, overseeing Client Advisory, Property Portfolio Operations, and Deal Sourcing. He brings extensive experience from his previous role as Property Investment Manager at Britam Asset Managers, Kenya, where he supervised Property Portfolio Operations, prepared Investment Recommendations, and managed deal sourcing and evaluation for both internal and external mandates.

Before Britam, Timothy led the Research & Consultancy unit at Axis Real Estate Limited, a leading real estate brokerage and consultancy firm. He holds a Degree in Land Economics, a Post Graduate Diploma from the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK), and has completed several professional certifications. Timothy is a Registered Valuer and Registered Estate Agent and is currently pursuing an MBA at the University of South Wales.

Roselyn Musera – Head, Business and Product Development

Roselyn Musera has been Head of Business and Product Development at GenAfrica Asset Managers since June 2015, driving growth and fostering strong client relationships. She previously served at Co-operative Bank of Kenya as Head of Business Development for Custodial Services and as Relationship Manager in the Government and Public Sector.

Roselyn holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications (Public Relations & Marketing) from Daystar University and a Master’s degree in Diplomacy from the University of Nairobi. She is a Full Member of ICIFA and the International Relations Society of Kenya (IRSK), and brings extensive expertise in business development, strategic leadership, and relationship management.

Antoinette Nganga – Head, Wealth Management

Antoinette Nganga leads Wealth Management at GenAfrica, focusing on building enduring prosperity and tailored strategies for clients. She combines personalized investment planning with expert guidance to ensure clients’ financial goals are met and their wealth grows sustainably.

Pauline Ngala – Milele Income Drawdown

Pauline Ngala is a dedicated member of the GenAfrica team, supporting the Milele Income Drawdown program. She plays a key role in ensuring seamless client support and delivering optimal retirement solutions.

Susan Maina – Team Lead Sales

Susan Maina leads the Sales team at GenAfrica, focusing on building strong client relationships and delivering tailored solutions. Her approach ensures every client interaction contributes to their financial success, reflecting the firm’s commitment to excellence.

Catherine Tusiime Arinaitwe – Business Development Associate, GenAfrica Uganda

Catherine Tusiime Arinaitwe drives business growth at GenAfrica Uganda, leveraging expertise in strategic management, product development, stakeholder engagement, and communications. She has over seven years of experience across finance, healthcare, FMCG, NGOs, and education.

Catherine holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and has completed certificates in PR, Sales Management, and Digital Marketing, showcasing her ability to navigate the evolving business landscape successfully.

Magdaline Wamuyu provides dedicated client service support at GenAfrica, ensuring seamless management and growth of pension investments. She is committed to safeguarding clients’ financial futures and delivering a secure and rewarding retirement experience.

Hannah Wambui – Head, Operations

Hannah Wambui is the Head of Operations at GenAfrica Asset Managers, ensuring operational excellence that supports the firm’s client-centric approach. Her focus is on precision, efficiency, and seamless processes, providing a foundation of reliability for clients to navigate the financial landscape with confidence.

Carol Iriho – Operations

Carol Iriho joined GenAfrica in 2020 and plays a pivotal role in investment operations and administrative functions at the Uganda office. She started as an Investment & Operations Analyst after completing her graduate training, taking responsibility for investment operations, statutory compliance, and portfolio administration.

Carol holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from Makerere University Business School and has completed the CFA Investment Foundations Program. Her attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and commitment to professional development make her an essential asset to the Operations team.
